Just Braid It!!! {Fabulous Braided Rug Tutorial}

When we got the idea to braid a rug for our bedroom, we had really excited. Not just because it would be a blast, but because it was an entirely new idea for us. Sure, we'd watched and enjoyed our Great-Grandma Conwell's plastic bag rugs, but this - this was something new! We could have a say in what main color our rug would be. We'd make it. We'd use it. We'd love it. And we do to this day!

So!  When you get the urge - try it!  It's a super simple rug to make. It takes time (which in turn, takes patience), but DO IT!  You won't regret it!

Here are some of my favorite things to remember when sewing together your braided rug....

*Keep it loose!  Let me explain myself. When you're wrapping your braid around itself, to create the shape of rug you're wanting, keeping it loose ensures that your rug will stay the shape you want it. Our mistake was pulling the braid too tight. In turn, we had to take some of our rug apart to stop the "bowl" shape that was quickly coming up and together. When you keep it loose, you're in control of where the rug shape goes (or stays).

*Leave the end of your braid open so you can quickly add more strips. We'd knot our end thinking our rug would be the desired size, only to have to undo the knot and add more strips to make our rug a little bit bigger. ('Cause bigger is better.) I suggest braiding a lot of strips, then laying out your rug shape. Sew on it a little bit, then check the size. If you're where you want to be, knot the end off. But it you're like us and think a-little-bit-more-is-always-a-good-idea, keep it going. Once you're to the end - well. end it!

What are you waiting for?!  Get stitching!

Together. That's what I really want.

I really wish all of you would've won. But those of you who pursue teaching your girl or girls to love to stitch with their hands and make something theirs.... you'll be the real winners.

I can't believe it!  It's the last day for our Modern Prairie Sewing blog hop!  It's been so exciting and fun to have so many of my crafty & creative friends participate. I almost wish I could've made it last forever! Silly, I know. But this has been too awesome!

Our last-but-certainly-not-least blog hop buddy is Abiah. Oh.my. Will you just look at that? So adorable, fun, inspiring, sweet, bright, precious, cute, hilarious, supportive, gorgeous.... Oh duh. I'm supposed to be talking about the belt! Oops! Sorry. That would be describing my little sis. I am so proud of this girl. When I asked her to be a part of this blog hop, she said, "sure!", then asked me what I wanted her to make. I told her what I almost always tell her, "whatever you want". She decided to make the It's a Cinch belt. And she did it by herself in record time! I've never seen her finish a project so quickly. I love the way she styled it too. See how versital the It's a Cinch belt is? Look at the way April styled her belt and then the way Abiah's wearing her's here!  SO FUN!!!!! Love it! Love you too, Buggsie!

Thanks, Abiah!

And thank you, friends! Check out all these amazing ladies that have participated in this Modern Prairie Sewing blog hop!

NOW!  Comes the really, really, exciting part!!!!  Let's pick ourselves 2 WINNERS!!!! I'll plan on posting a giveaway tomorrow!!!!  Stay tuned!
